Career
French director
Nicolas Hans Martin was born in Dijon in 1969 and currently resides in Paris. He studied at the Beaux-Arts schools in Prague, Aix-en-Provence, and Marseille, with a focus on painting and music. His career later expanded to theater, where he worked as an actor, assistant director, and set designer. His interest in traveling led him to learn Romanian and Romani. In 2007, he co-founded the Latcho Divano festival in Marseille, a cultural and activist event dedicated to recognizing Romani cultures. He also volunteers as a translator for Médecins du Monde, working with Roma populations living in slums.
Martin has participated in several short fiction films and attended various workshops at Emergence, a summer cinema university. He furthered his cinema education, particularly in editing and documentary writing, at the Ateliers Varan in 2008. The following year, in 2009, he took part in the documentary workshop at La Fémis.
