Colombian documentarist, video maker and lecturer
Juan Carlos was born in Bogotá, Colombia in 1980. He earned a Bachelor degree in Philosophy from the Universidad Javeriana at Bogotá, a Bachelor degree in Cinema and Television Production from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and a Master degree from the same institution. In 2009, he was awarded with a Fulbright fellowship for graduate studies in the United States. In 2015 he earned a PhD degree in Art History from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Recently, he has exhibited works like the plastic action “Copistas” at the Fundación Gilberto Alzate Avendaño in Bogotá, Colombia and the video installation “En la ventana”, in the 18th Muestra Internacional Documental de Bogotá in 2016.
He is the author of several academic articles published in international journals. Some of the most recent are: “From the Screen to the Wall: Siqueiros and Eisenstein in Mexico”, and “Images of the Unimaginable: Photography and the (Re)presentation of the event”.
Currently, he is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Visual Arts in the Universidad Javeriana at Bogotá, Colombia.
