Career
French sound engineer and sound director
Sound director, university professor, research director and lecturer, Daniel Deshays has worked with sound for over forty years, for the theatre (185 plays), as much as music (250 records) and film (101 films). His collaborators include Chantal Akerman, François Caillat, Jean Michel Carré, Henri Colomer, Philippe Garrel, Robert Kramer, Yann Lemasson, Tariq Teguia, Agnès Jaoui and Robert Doisneau.
He founded the Sound Design department at the École nationale supérieure des arts et techniques du théâtre in Lyon (ENSATT), and teaches at the Fémis film school, the Ateliers Varan, as well as at numerous festivals. He has taught at the ENSAD, in Sciences Po, and for ten years at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, where he developed his vision of the plasticity of sound. He is the author of two essays: "Pour une écriture du son" (2006) and "Entendre le cinéma" (2010), published by Klincksieck, Paris.
