Hemel Atehortua
Director
Hemel Atehortua started filmmaking during the workshop "Comunas Películas" related to the making of Catalina Villar's film "Diario en Medellín" (Diary of Medellin). Then, he participated in Varan's workshops in Bogota in 2000 and 2002. During these trainings, he directed "No hay cama pa' tanta gente", selected in numerous international film festivals. He graduated in social communication, journalism section at Medellin University, Antioquia. Since then, he works as a TV director for several local and national channels. He also worked as an editor for TV documentary or fiction series. He has been assistant-director on "La Nueva Medellin", directed by Catalina Villar.
He's currently directing a documentary: "Alaska" and works as researcher and scriptwriter for the series "Tus Tierras, tus derechos" (Your land, your rights) for the Colombian Ministry of Agriculture as part of the peace agreements.
