Thor De Moraes Neukranz
Producer and director
Born in 1991 in Recife, Thor de Moraes Neukranz is the son of a German immigrant and a Brazilian mother. After three years studying agricultural and environmental engineering at UFRPE until 2014, he joined Coletivo Antiproibicionista Mujica, which runs the traveling film club THCine. In 2015, he decided to pursue studies in film, performing arts, and audiovisual production. In 2016, he participated in a Varan workshop in Recife and trained as a documentary filmmaker. He directed the short film “Quand on trie,” which was selected for the 2017 editions of DOC-Cévennes and the Festival Brésil en Mouvement. In 2021, Thor de Moraes Neukranz directed his new film: “Elos da Matriarca,” which blends formats, techniques, and aesthetics, and features the director’s grandmother, 85-year-old Luzinete Lupercina, as its protagonist.
Thor de Moraes Neukranz is the founder and curator of Encontros do Cinema Pernambucano, an independent project that has organized over 200 screenings in Brazil and more than 20 in Europe. He is also the curator of MUAFRO-PE in Recife and co-founder of Panorama Brasilis in Brussels, initiatives that bring together film, debates, exhibitions, music, dance, and performance.

In 1981, a workshop was set up with the "Nùcleo de Documentação Cinematografica" of the Federal University of Paraíba in João Pessõa. In 2011, and then again in 2016, workshops were held in Recife on the issue of water.
